A social firm is an enterprise which has the explicit objective of employing disadvantaged people. It is a term peculiar to Britain, and a German talking about an "integration company" or Beschäftigungsbetrieb, an Italian about a social co-operative of type B or a Finn talking - most confusingly - about a "social enterprise" mean the same thing.

Different countries have different ideas of the minimum quota of disadvanatged people that a social firm should have: in Italy it is 30%, in the UK it is commonly thought of as 25%.
